WAYNE GRETZKY TOURNAMENT CHAMPS!!!!
The Novice MD Blue Jr. Navy Vets are Novice MD champions of
the 45th Annual Wayne Gretzky International Tournament. The boys
played extremely hard over this 7 game, 4 day stretch which saw the boys
playing shorthanded with two players away for the first three games. A big
thank you goes out to all the family and friends that travelled to Brantford to
support the boys throughout the tournament.
The team continued to play strong defensive hockey which was evident through the round robin play where the boys defeated Kitchener Jr. Rangers Blue (2-1), Burlington White (6-2), Milton Winterhawks (4-0) and Sarnia Jr. Sting (4-0). The boys finished with the number 1 seed and defeated the Stoney Creek Jr. Warriors 11-0 in the quarter-final match and the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Blue 4-0 in the semi-finals.
The Championship game was against the Sarnia Jr. Sting. Sarnia scored first in the opening period but the boys never gave up. The boys scored the next 3 goals to beat the Jr. Sting 3-1 to earn this well-deserved victory. The championship was a complete team effort. Congratulations Boys!!!!!
One treat for the boys will be watching their game on Rogers TV as the local Rogers station televised the Championship game. The game will be aired on January 3, 2015 at 2 pm and will also be available on-line for those individuals with a My Rogers account.
