2024-25 U12 B/BB Jr. Navy Vets Season Introduction
Welcome all players and families to the U12 B/BB team. The coaching staff have prepared and continue to develop a seasonal plan that will provide a productive season of individual growth and team development during 2024-25 season.
Below is an outline of this season's structured approach.
Team and Player Mindset Measures:
• Pre, Mid, & Post Season individual player and parent meetings: Each player and at least one parent will attend three personal meetings to help develop player identity and define three key areas of improvement to be attained.
• Team Values PACT: Individual commitment to an environment we agree to create. This will be through a poster format and with parent & player signature. This is posted in the dressing room for all events.
• Keys to Gameday: Each pre-game routine will feature three keys to our success as a team.
• Hockey IQ binders: Efforts to provide weekly learning materials for players to review in the car to and from the rink or during downtime at home. This will involve a team structure package, hockey terminology, recent teachings, inspirational thoughts, and fun materials for a laugh.
• Video Teaching & Correction – Coaches’ tablet to be utilized to complete team video and brief individual sessions complementing our team structure developments and progressions.
• One4Another Charity Experience – One4Another is a registered Canadian charity founded in 2012 by siblings Glenn Pascoe and Wendy Hayhoe from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. (Potential fundraiser.)
• Greatest Intention Award – Each game, a blaze vest and hard hat is granted to the player showing the greatest INTENTION.
INTENTION will be defined through a player’s effort to execute what is being taught as a whole or what is being asked of the player specifically.
For example, if we as a team have been consistently lazy on the forecheck, and we as coaches are encouraging improvement in this area, the player that sets the greatest example of a meaningful forecheck is deserving of the Greatest INTENTION Award. All that we do – ALWAYS WITH INTENTION.
General Team Rules & Etiquette – Off-Ice
1. Immediate attention and respect when a coach is ready to address the room.
2. Players take off only helmets and gloves immediately following a game until a coach addresses the room, then they can get undressed.
3. Coaches and trainers only will have access to the dressing room and help with skates, if required.
4. Players will take ownership of their workplace and clean-up after practice. This is pucks up, equipment away, and the dressing room left clean.
5. The twenty-four-hour rule is to be applied when you see fit. If you need to discuss a matter with us, we trust you’ll take the professional approach and discuss it with us appropriately.
6. Parents refrain from directing their players on the ice or on the team bench. This is seen as a direct disrespect to the coaching staff. Encourage the player to focus on his coaches, teammates, and himself mentally.
7. Parents support the coaching staff’s philosophy and teachings that are to be guided by the Team PACT and the team structure package. All communications to the player are expected to align with a team first approach. The coaching staff will be highly approachable and are ready to discuss all matters related to player development and helping the parents to understand the process.
8. The coaching staff will not be naming a captain or assistant captains on this roster. This strategy helps to eliminate an environment which assumes ‘Status’ or shows to some a perceived ranking of importance in our players. All players will carry leadership responsibilities and are expected to meet a high standard of character.
9. Immediate action together on bullying or harassment. Proper communications with parents and coaches to prevent and find solutions, if it exists. Every player will be made to feel comfortable in our dressing room. No exceptions.
General Team Rules & Etiquette – On-Ice
1. (To be considered dependent on early observations) In game situations, if a player lays on the ice and a trainer must go get him. This player is considered injured and done for the game. Our trainer will count to five unless he is sure there is a significant injury.
2. One coach only will address the officials. Players and parents are expected to promote a high level of professionalism in the crowd and help us earn a quality reputation.
3. High standards related to player discipline specific to stick penalties and penalties after a whistle. Coaches will teach and reinforce this to hold players accountable. Parents are expected to support this through the same communications with the player.
4. Puck movement for the purpose of maintaining possession, generating offence, and promoting team play is to be demanded. Effective team tactics will be reinforced consistently through our coaching staff, and this will be guided by our structure package. We will not accept selfish play or a “skate it as far as you can mentality.”
5. Proper shift length as the coaching staff will dictate is crucial to the overall success of the team and will support our high intensity style of play. Extended shift lengths and ineffective changes will not be accepted.
