The Woodstock Jr Navy Vets Peewee MD Team are Tier 2 MD East/Central
Champions. I am smiling just typing
those words. To say this group of boys
deserved this success is a tremendous understatement. The boys went 4-0-1 in the playoffs as they
beat the Burlington Bulldogs on Wednesday night in the Championship series 2-1 to win the series 5 points to 1.
A wise person once said “It is not how you start boys…it is how you finish”. The team had its ups and downs in regular reason play but finished the regular season strong going 4-1-2 to squeak into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed on goal differential. The boys beat Brantford (the number 1 seed) 4 points to nil to win the series. The players stepped up the intensity in this series as it took place during March Break where the team was down 3 to 4 skaters for each game.
The next series against the Burlington Bulldogs was hard fought and very competitive. Our hats are off to those players on the Burlington team that played hard each game. Each one of those games could have been won by either team. Our boys never quit and played strong defensively throughout the series only allowing 3 goals in 3 games.
The team has now qualified for the Alliance MD Championships next weekend in St. Catharines. The boys have a record of 30-16-9, have captured two tournament titles, the division title and are looking to add to this success next weekend.
A big thank you goes out to all of the parents, family and friends that have supported this team not just this year but over the past four years. Another wise person once said “It takes a village to raise a hockey team”. Those words cannot be more true than for this team.
