Gretzky Tournament Champions!!
The Minor Atom Jr Navy Vets are Champions of the 45th Annual Wayne Gretzky International hockey Tournament! The boys went undefeated over the 3 day tournament to capture the championship title yesterday evening in front of a large, supportive crowd that traveled to Brantford to cheer the boys on.
The boys opened the tourney Saturday with a solid 5-0 shutout win over the Ancaster Avalanche and followed it up with a 3-1 victory over the Burlington Eagles. On Sunday - they kept the winning steak going with a 2-1 victory over the Halton Hills Thunder and a 9-1 win vs the St Catharines Warriors. This left the Navy Vets undefeated and seeded number 1 headed into the playoff round. In the Semi Final Monday morning - the Vets had a re-match with the Halton Hills Thunder and once again came out on top with a 2-0 win. This set up a Championship final with the tough Burlington Eagles. The Eagles beat the Vets earlier in the year in the Silver Stick tournament but the Vets came back with a victory earlier in the Gretzky tournament over the Eagles. The boys fought hard to a well deserved 3-1 victory in the final to capture the 45th Wayne Gretzky title. Congratulations boys - great tournament!!
