Information Regarding the Start of the Midget/Juvenile HL 2020/21 Season
The start to this season will be like no other due to COVID-19 and the guidelines set out by the OHF and the Alliance as well as our local Heath Board.

The following is the outline on how the season looks, give or take, at this point in time

Alliance Hockey has released a detailed plan for the return to hockey based on the current Ontario government stages of the pandemic. Under the guidelines of this plan and the stage determined by the Province, teams are starting to hit the ice under heavy restrictions imposed by Hockey Canada, the OHF, the City of Woodstock and our local board of health. For example, per this plan, as of mid Sept, Strict On Ice physical distancing is mandated with no game play allowed. It is anticipated that we could go to 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 game play in mid October, but given the current increase in cases, that may not be allowed. 5 on 5 hockey as we have known it will not be permitted until January at best dependent upon the Province and the determination of stages.

On the basis of the return to play plans and the current situation with the pandemic in Ontario and the current stage we are in as mandated by the Province of Ontario, I am recommending that Midget/Juvenile hockey not start until approx. the beginning of November dependent upon many factors that are outside of our control. Please keep in mind that given the fluid situation, this is subject to change dependent upon the province.

That start would look something like 3-4 weeks of practices/controlled scrimmages that we would use for evaluation with a return to full 5 on 5 hockey in January. With the intent that this season will be extended to the end of April instead of closing in March.

Note that none of this is set in stone.

And I would very much like to hear from you if you believe we should return to hockey sooner and are willing to understanding the restrictions placed upon us.

Rest assured, we are doing a lot to try to bring some level of normalcy and slowly bring hockey back to normal given the unprecedented times we all find ourselves in.
